Sometimes one bank transaction covers several things. This Sunday deposit was tithes, offerings, and a gift for missions. Click Split under the category. Two parts appear, with the full amount in the first. Type amounts as positive numbers, and pick each part's category. The line at the bottom shows how much is left to assign. Fill in the second part. Need more? Click Add a part. Balancivo fills in what's left. When it says Adds up to the full deposit, you're ready. Click Save split. Each part now shows under the transaction, and your bank balance doesn't change. Then mark it reviewed as usual. To change it later, click Edit split.
Sometimes one bank transaction covers several things. A $2,000 deposit might be $1,200 in tithes, $500 in offerings and $300 in other contributions. Split it so each part goes to the right category. The bank transaction stays the same amount, so balances and reconciliation don't change.
Steps
- Go to Review and find the transaction.
- Click Split under its category. Two parts appear, starting with the full amount in the first.
- Enter each part's Amount and Category. Type amounts as positive numbers; they take the transaction's direction.
- Add more parts if needed. Click + Add a part. It fills in what's left to assign. Click Remove to drop a part.
- Add a Fund or Memo (optional) for any part. The Fund list appears when funds are set up.
- Check the total. The line next to + Add a part says Adds up to the full amount when you're done. It shows how much is "left to assign" or "too much" until then.
- Click Save split. The transaction now shows Split with each part listed.
- Mark it reviewed with Reviewed as usual.
Loan and mortgage payments
- If you've set up loans, a Loan or mortgage payment list appears in the split. Pick the loan, and Balancivo fills in principal, interest and escrow (if any).
- A payment of exactly a loan's monthly amount is divided this way automatically when you click Split.
- Change the parts if the lender's statement shows different amounts.
Good to know
- This is a Plus plan feature. On Starter or Standard, the page shows what it does and how to upgrade. Free trials and charter subscribers have it. See Your free trial, plans and usage.
- A split needs 2 to 20 parts, and Save split works only when the parts add up exactly.
- To change a split, click Edit split. To undo it, click Edit split, then Remove split, and choose one category for the whole transaction.
- Transfers between your own accounts can't be split, and transfer categories aren't offered for parts.
- If the bank later corrects the amount of a split transaction, the split is removed and the transaction goes back to To review.
- A closed month must be reopened before you change a split.
- To divide a check, record it on the Checks page first, then split it here. See Write and track checks.
